Happy almost Christmas to you all! As we say in our house “just a few more sleeps and it will be here”. All the Christmas cards have been sent out, 90% of the presents have been wrapped, and my kiddo is anxiously awaiting Santa’s return.
Until we got RL married last year, Mark and I have sent out pretty generic cards to our friends and family, focusing instead on making a fun one in SL. It took some digging but I came up with our very first one.
But things have changed the past two years and my focus has shifted more with RL Christmas cards taking priority over SL ones. All that arranging family photo sessions, updating my address book and making sure we have everything sent out in time. This year I even did my parents’ card for them as my mom has been ill off and on and really hasn’t been able to put forth the time and energy arranging pictures all of their grandkids for her and dad’s card. Some of my friends have asked why fuss? Why not just send a nice greeting card with your name signed? It’s because, and this is my preference, I like seeing how everyone has grown and changed from year to year, in particular, the people I don’t get to see often. It also feels more personal to have a picture than just a card.
Sorry, there I go rambling again. Back to the point, is that I was actually going to let it slide this year and not do an SL one at all. That is until an old friend mentioned that they look forward to the “Draconia family Christmas card” every year. It was super sweet and absolutely made my week. It was just the push I needed to get working on the card.
I think it turned out super cute, in spite of the fact that Mark says every year that he hates the way he looks RL and SL.
Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely holiday season and I’d love to hear some of your traditions both SL and RL.
I’ve never shopped Rewind before but this theme brought back so many fun memories I had to stop in and buy a few things. I had a crush on a boy who was really into punk rock and in my lame and desperate attempts to
I went through a punk phase in late in high school and on into my early days in college as well. I’d tell you how much my parents just LOVED that but that would be a lie. lol. There was a cute boy I had a major crush on who was really into punk rock and in my lame attempts to impress him and get his attention, I delved into the world on punk. (Shh! Don’t judge me I was only 17!) It was little bits here and there. I bought a compilation CD and a studded belt at Hot Topic, then a cuff and a plaid skirt with ripped fishnets. I thought I was hot chit – mostly due to the newfound attention from my classmates and because I stood out from what I called the “Abercrombie Barbies” in my school. Like I said, it was lame. lol.
And while 17-year-old me would have been thrilled to have him fall madly in love with my new fashion sense and music knowledge, and we would date and maybe marry and have little rocker babies, after one very awkward date, I realized we were better off as friends.
Somewhere along the line, probably in college, I found a love for punk and hard rock music and my own sense of style that didn’t necessarily need a studded belt to be unique. Gotta love those little life lessons right?

I love a good rain storm, especially in the summer time. There’s something incredibly beautiful and awe-inspiring about it all.
Storms always bring out a bit of nostalgia in me as I look back to my childhood, standing on the deck with my parents and watching a storm roll in over the lake. Even if it was long past bedtime, we’d throw on yellow slickers and stand outside until the rain reached us. Maybe someday I’ll get the chance to pass on that tradition.
I haven’t posted in awhile. We’ve been so busy since we got back from vacation, and when I’m not exhausted, I’m too hot to even think about getting on the computer. It’s now a requirement that the next house has central A/C. But summer is coming to a close and the hubbers has been kind enough to set me up on his PC so that when it’s super hot I can at least sit in front of the window unit.
Enough of my rambling and ONTO THE PICTURE! Summer is my favorite season. Autumn comes in at a close second followed by winter and spring.
I grew up near Lake Michigan, so for me, summer means a lot of time at the beach with family. It’s the sunshine and the sand. Splashing in the waves. Wrapping yourself in gigantic towels and eating fresh blueberries, watermelon, or ice cream. Funny tan lines, beach grass crafts, bonfires with s’mores and falling asleep to the crashing of waves on the sand. All the windows were open unless it was raining and the A/C was barely ever touched. Most days the breeze or the wind coming off the lake was enough to keep you cool.
And now I live out East, where the humidity is higher and there are no nice lake breezes. And what passes for beach time out here is the Atlantic shore. Which….eww. (Sorry if you’re a fan of the shore but I don’t get it.) It’s a 2-hour drive – which is actually more like 3-5 with all the traffic unless you leave at the crack of dawn. Now the boardwalk is fun, I love the shops and restaurants and the rides. But then you get to the beach and have to pick your way across what feels like a mile of hot sand, around medical waste and trash is not particularly appealing. It’s not really even worth swimming. I don’t mind the ocean but up here we do not have the nice clean, blue waters of Florida and the Caribbean. Run in, cool off, and usually I come out feeling grosser than before I went in. I’ll take a polite pass.
