Let the rain fall…

I love a good rain storm, especially in the summer time. There’s something incredibly beautiful and awe-inspiring about it all.

Storms always bring out a bit of nostalgia in me as I look back to my childhood, standing on the deck with my parents and watching a storm roll in over the lake. Even if it was long past bedtime, we’d throw on yellow slickers and stand outside until the rain reached us. Maybe someday I’ll get the chance to pass on that tradition.

This is what summer dreams are made of

I haven’t posted in awhile. We’ve been so busy since we got back from vacation, and when I’m not exhausted, I’m too hot to even think about getting on the computer. It’s now a requirement that the next house has central A/C. But summer is coming to a close and the hubbers has been kind enough to set me up on his PC so that when it’s super hot I can at least sit in front of the window unit.

Enough of my rambling and ONTO THE PICTURE! Summer is my favorite season. Autumn comes in at a close second followed by winter and spring.

I grew up near Lake Michigan, so for me, summer means a lot of time at the beach with family. It’s the sunshine and the sand. Splashing in the waves. Wrapping yourself in gigantic towels and eating fresh blueberries, watermelon, or ice cream. Funny tan lines, beach grass crafts, bonfires with s’mores and falling asleep to the crashing of waves on the sand. All the windows were open unless it was raining and the A/C was barely ever touched. Most days the breeze or the wind coming off the lake was enough to keep you cool.

And now I live out East, where the humidity is higher and there are no nice lake breezes. And what passes for beach time out here is the Atlantic shore. Which….eww. (Sorry if you’re a fan of the shore but I don’t get it.) It’s a 2-hour drive – which is actually more like 3-5 with all the traffic unless you leave at the crack of dawn. Now the boardwalk is fun, I love the shops and restaurants and the rides. But then you get to the beach and have to pick your way across what feels like a mile of hot sand, around medical waste and trash is not particularly appealing. It’s not really even worth swimming. I don’t mind the ocean but up here we do not have the nice clean, blue waters of Florida and the Caribbean. Run in, cool off, and usually I come out feeling grosser than before I went in. I’ll take a polite pass.

This place.

This godforsaken town.

Outsiders don’t get it. They never will. Everyone wants to visit but nobody wants to stay. And while it seems lovely and idyllic on the outside, the truth is that there’s little to offer those of us who weren’t born with a silver spoon in our mouths. It’s a lifelong sentence of drudgery and mediocrity. The rich drink their champagne and party while the blue collar families slowly drown. Efforts to revive the city have done little to boost the economy and so we are left waiting, wanting more. Wishing, for the wind to sweep us away to anywhere but here…

First pic and post since spring! It’s good to have the cooler weather and finally be able to use my computer. It’s REALLY good not to be swamped with wedding plans and stress! I’ve been feeling a combination of frustrated, nostalgic, and somewhat bleh lately, so the inspiration for this photo is born out of those feelings. I shouldn’t be down but maybe the newlywed high is over or it’s just that reality is kicking in hard lately. Who knows. At least I can pour some of that into SL and funnel it into creativity.

Guardian

Longing to feel your touch…

This is my second attempt at making a humanoid-robot thing in photoshop. It’s much better than my last attempt, which, after a horrible critique left me feeling defeated, deflated and questioning my photoshop skills. A good portion of this is still “hand drawn” with only the leg and arm joints c/p from a pic I took using a robot avi. All in all though, I’m immensely happy with the results. A well done pic can really lift the spirits.

The cold never bothered me anyway

Christmas is fast approaching and it’s freaking 70 degrees outside! It’s December so where’s the cold?! Where’s the snow?!

I watched Frozen the other day, all the while, wishing, hoping and praying for snow. But my cries have gone unanswered and the weather forecast is about the same for the next few days.

Thankfully in SL you can change seasons at the drop of a hat. Two of my dear friends have recently winterized their sim Runestone. It’s one of my favorite spots on the grid and now that it’s all snowy and lovely, I’m planning to spend a lot of time there. Here’s my take on Frozen/snow princess and here’s to hoping Christmas will be white and snowy.
